Researchers created a catalog of all the known viruses that infect mammals. They then identified which of these viruses are most likely to jump to humans. Bats were found to carry the largest number of viruses likely to jump to humans. Primates posed the second largest risk factor, followed by rodents in third place. The researchers hope that the database can be used to predict the next disease outbreak, helping health officials prepare, or perhaps even prevent an outbreak.
